Specs through years

Post by sky02 »

Hi,

It is common knowledge that od VS1400 from 87-88 had a bit more punch in them and due to emission and noise laws over the years exhausts became more restrictive and jetting smaller.

I have question regarding the latest years after rebranding to S83 how they compare to the VS1400 over the years. Have anyone compered them?

According to this site https://bikeswiki.com/Suzuki_VS1400_Int ... evard_S83) they have the same power and torque as the early ones.

quite a bit of difference between the early and late intruders.

71,0 hp (52 kW)/ 4,800 rpm – Intruder 1400 (1987-1994), Boulevard S83
64,0 hp (47 kW)/ 4,600 rpm - Intruder 1400 (1995-1997)
60,0 hp (44 kW)/ 5,000 rpm - Intruder 1400 (1998-2004)
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.

Yes but I am asking about Boulevard S83 it looks like she has specs like the early ones.

I’ve rode only VS1400 and now I have opportunity tu buy almost mint S83 from 2007 but its a bit of a journey so I am wondering if I want to.

I was looking for some catalogue or brochure from Suzuki to confirm those specs of S83 but without any luck.

I found 2 sites that claim 72 hp.

I have an issue with these claims because my 87 had 72 hp and Suzuki had to keep dropping the power to meet the emissions standards. My 99 hasn't got the power of the 87.

Yes and according to the site from my post ‘99 had 60 ponies and it seems correct. The question is s83 she had to sell against newer mostly injected bikes. Maybe it is true that they bring back original power.

I know my 99 doesn't have anywhere near the power the 87 did. It would be nice if they did get the power up but I am not sure they have.

Typically with carbureted bikes they lean out the mixtures over the years to comply with changing emissions regulations.

There's no way they are bringing that power back unless they go to FI.

I try buying FI systems the German guy don't want to deal with no German speaking people, was a guy in Argentina putting FI on any carburated motorcycle but, he never answered me either.
So I don't think I have any solutions for that.
What about using the 87 carbs? What that will accomplish?
More RPMs please :putput:

It's more than likely a combination of carbs, cams and valve sizes.

As far as FI is concerned you can get Megasquirt systems and adapt them. I'm no expert on that though...

I started on making an FI system for the 1400 back 16 years ago incorporating the Intruder 1500 FI components as a basis. I went so far as to start modifications to make Fuel Injection Manifolds. But,....I shelved that project when I started my Springtail Chopper.

I looked into the mega squirt idea and it seemed it would be ALOTTA work to make it work reliably and well on the 1400.

Having bought loads of stuff from Hans @ LMC, Germany,...His proven step up would be The One to go with if I were doing it. Have had several conversations with him and think him a Very Good person and Mechanical Engineer.

Just so we're clear the 1500lc was a carburetted bike. The FI came in on the C90 around 2005.

Yes - essentially the same bike structurally but different model designation if you go looking for parts.

I tried going with Hans, he even refused to sell me a tank.
I know for sure 2 other people that he refused to sell the FI system just because we live in the USA......

REALLY? I am shocked. That's a total turnaround from what I experienced with him.
Sorry you had such.
