And speaking of batteries...

Post by Leckbass »

Left the key on the bike for about 5 hours, battery was totally dead...

I threw it on the 2 amp charger last night, this afternoon it was at 90%.

Took it for a ride this afternoon, did about a 130 miles, the bike started up fine 4 times but now I'm a little nervous.

What kind of battery, flooded or sealed, and how old? A sealed AGM battery comes back better than a flooded battery, but you would have shortened the life of either.

Also, if that is a regular charger - not a tender type - use it carefully, as 2A is really the maximum a MC battery should receive; less than 1.5A would be better for the battery.

Sealed AMG, I used the 2 amp, cause it was that or the tender. And the battery was very low.

Battery Tenders, many of them, have a relatively low output, but if you got the time, it's the best way to go, even if the battery is flat.

I have a manual 2 AMP for when the automatic one won't kick in. Charge it up just enough, then switch to the auto

I have a 1.5A Battery Tender brand tender, which is more than enough to safely charge a MC battery; most, though are 0.5A to 0.75A, which will do the job, eventually. I even use that tender to pump up my car battery, if it has been sitting long enough to need it.

I think the battery is fine, I left it alone after my ride yesterday. Started right up this afternoon.

So, no voltage drop? That's usually a sure sign of failure after sitting. You should get around 12.7V.
