The Seat

Post by Ron Zee »

Okay, other than spending for what for me is a LOT of money for a better seat for my 1400, what can be done with the stock one for better support on longer rides? And yes, my cover is starting to tear a little so replacing the seat cover is also something to think about. [emoji41]

They do sell new covers on eBay, for a fairly reasonable price.

Add a layer of memory foam and you'll have a comfy seat on the cheap.

I used sheep skin, long hair variety until I bought a cheap squareback on eBay.

I don't want to own them all, just ride them all.

There is a guy in Utah on Ebay that seems to do a great job on seat covers, vinyl or leather. You can send seat to him or order cover and do it yourself. You can look him up on face book to see his work and satisfied customer reports. This winter I am going to send him my seat.

Put 45,000 on mine with stock seat.Think Emu and me were only two that did not hate them.I carried some of the small bubble, bubble warp with me on out of state more than one day trips. Most the time for wife but used it myself a few times.Moving my legs up to my road bar real often was a help for me and if solo stand awhile on the lower than stock rear pegs made for my wife.Sure not the best trip bike but not as bad as some IMO.

Square back mustang.... I have a couple 500+ miles days on it.

I just put the wide touring on my 1500 and I get the feeling I will like it just as much if not more.

Pictures directly below are helpful. I don't always read everything. You can thank Designer for that. :lmao:

Yup. Look at the picture of my 1400. It looks a lot like that one. .

I also mentioned that this weekend I put the wide touring on my 1500 and I'm liking it so far.

Put 30,000 km on the stock seat of my 01 VS800 in 2001 & then 45,000 km on the stock seat on my 01 1400 over the next 3 seasons without any issues.

My current 06 S83 has a Corbin Dual Tour that is very comfy

A couple of guys on the purple board used this site in poland for seat covers. I do not know anything about the company but the prices are good. They also have an ebay site. Buy a cover and add a layer of memory foam and you should be good.

If you have any type of electrical issue, have your battery load tested before you do anything else. Any auto parts store will test it for free.

thanks for the ideas. I think I'll try to add some foam and recover it first.

many years ago I put a back rest on my 87, switched it to the 99. i put 154,000 miles on the 87 and no have over 200,000 miles on the 99, with stock seats. I have 900 mile days on both bikes. The back rest makes all the difference.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.
