Run engine out of frame?
Anyone ever ran one out of frame? Is it hard to do?
And is this still good?

Re: Run engine out of frame?
If your intention is just to see if the engine is good a leakdown / compression test will probably tell you enough. I've got one of those boroscope cameras that plugs into my phone - which are great for sticking down the spark plug hole so you can inspect the bores for rust. Probably a good idea here if the inlet and exhaust ports have been left uncovered.

Thanks for the tips brother. How about cycling through gears to make sure those work?hillsy wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 4:24 pmIf your intention is just to see if the engine is good a leakdown / compression test will probably tell you enough. Yeah for sure but I'd be looking into the bores first up - if there is rust in there trying to turn the motor over might create bigger problems.BRONX INTRUDER wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 5:53 pmThanks for the tips brother. Although you can always go up and down the gears just by turning / jiggling the output shaft and moving the shifter without actually cranking the engine.

Awesome. I'll check amazon for a horoscope that'll work with my android phone. If that checks out.. I'll keep going. It's an 87. Thanks again.

Search for endoscope or boroscope - horoscope won't help yaBRONX INTRUDER wrote: ↑Thu Apr 28, 2022 6:10 pmAwesome. I'll check amazon for a horoscope that'll work with my android phone. If that checks out.. I'll keep going. It's an 87. Thanks again.

Re: Run engine out of frame?
I haven't gotten the borescope yet but I took pics at header ports and carb ports..
Also.. When I opened oil plug.. Maybe half a cup of light brownish yellowish water poured out before oil and chunks of sludge came out. That's bad right? Lol.. Like maybe it had sat outside n got rained in..

All that you posted above bodes very poorly for this motor. Does it even turn over? Can you connect battery power to the Starter Motor and see if it does?
What does the Spark Plug look like?

If you are going to try and turn the motor over take the stator cover off and try to turn the crank with a spanner.
Sounds like its stuffed though. Parts motor at best.

Re: Run engine out of frame?
the Rust "ring" at the bottom of the Front Plug is not good news to my eye. Was a Valve left open when the Motor sat for a long time?
Good idea to do as much as possible seeing as how there is a chance the Motor is not seized.BRONX INTRUDER wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 5:45 pmHaven't tried turning it over yet. Wanna vacuum the ports out a Lil so loose crap don't fall inside.. Just in case.
Seeing as how the Ports are so small (relative to a usual vacuum hose) , May I suggest you might want to use a piece of copper Plumbing Faucet Supply Pipe duct-taped to the Hose? They usually are about 3/8 " diameter, and can get into the smaller recesses within the port...and even be used as a "scraper" to loosen Particulate Matter just before being sucked into the vacuum.

No... I don't think I'm going to bother with this one. It would need too much and I'm not feeling it. Lol.
I'll probably dismantle it and put all the pc's up for sale. Saw engine parts on ebay and it'll fetch me more than junking it. Lol.

If you have the time to pull the motor apart you will make more money selling it as bits. Plus it's easier to post / ship parts of an engine than a whole engine.BRONX INTRUDER wrote: ↑Fri May 20, 2022 6:51 pmNo... I don't think I'm going to bother with this one. not so good at putting it back together...
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.
