Removing tank badges?

Post by mikebet45 »

Don't want to start a style debate, but has anybody removed the tank side badges? Are they just glued on? I use a magnetic tank bag with "ears" that go around the tank and the badges kind of get in the way. (I'm a little nervous on this topic because some years ago on a wooden boat forum I mentioned a hull modification I wanted to do and the classicists flamed the hell out of me. You'd have thought I suggested defacing the Lincoln Memorial.)

You're pretty safe with suggesting mods to an Intruder - there's not too many purists here

Not 100% on the 1400 but the LC and Boulevards used a double sided tape. Warm up the badge with a hair dryer and it should come off a lot easier.

My 1400 was just double sided tape and the paint pattern continued under the plate. Depending on age and sun exposure you may have a slightly different shade under the plate. Pull some dental floss behind the plate and wipe the residue clean with WD40.
If you have any type of electrical issue, have your battery load tested before you do anything else. Any auto parts store will test it for free.

My 99 also had double sided tape holding it on. I used a fine monofiliment fishing line to cut it off. Used some goof off to clean up the residue. There was very little difference in the paint color and once it was waxed you had to know the difference was there to see it.

Personally I have no problem with customization of a bike to make it fit the rider's style and use. I like to look at others ideas and copy those that work for me. I think that most of us think the same way.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.

By the way you can always put them back on if you want the original look again.

+1 on the fishing line, you kind of use a sawing motion.

Badges, we don't need no stinking badges.

Thanks, guys. That's what I expected. I might find another place to slap the badges. Fork lowers? LOL

I put some new double sided tape on them and stuck them on my garage wall.
