My intruder model.

Post by Juan71 »

Hi, is there someone in Europe who knows how i can get my bike's model ?
My bike is a vs1400 of 1990 but i don't know what's the model .
i'm looking for Oem rebuilding kit for the front and rear brake calipers but there are two different kind of reference conneted with the model.
This on suzuki part house site...
1990 REAR CALIPER (MODEL P/R/S) - ref: 69107-38B00 SEAL
1990 REAR CALIPER (MODEL P/R/S) - ref: 69108-45010 BOOT
and
1990 REAR CALIPER (MODEL H/J/L/M/N) - ref: 69107-38B00 SEAL
1990 REAR CALIPER (MODEL H/J/L/M/N) - ref: 69108-45000 BOOT
The Seal it's the same for all models but for the Boot there are two different part numbers.
The problem is that i don't know if my bike is a P/R/S model or is a H/J/L/M/N.
My Bike come from Germany VX51LDxxxxxx.
I find a site where it's possible to know this but only for an AMerican market model.

the front caliper it's ok because there are only two seals and the ref is for all the models.

1990 FRONT CALIPER SEAL- ref: 59107-24A00
1990 FRONT CALIPER SEAL- ref: 59108-24A00

Hoping someone can help me,
Regards
Gianni from Canary Islands

When I look up both part numbers it says 69108-45010 is a "wiper seal" and 69108-45000 is a "piston boot"

The wiper seal looks like a piston seal:

The piston boot is an actual boot:

Which one do you have on the caliper?

Welcome!

You can view the service manual here, section 11 covers your model year. https://www.dropbox.com/s/lb74ntffyyz06 ... l.pdf?dl=0

More information can be found here. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/l2opwnq1 ... 2ik3jtbc0i

Based in the Vin your bike should be Suzuki VS 1400 GLP Intruder (L) (VX51LD 1990)
If you have any type of electrical issue, have your battery load tested before you do anything else. Any auto parts store will test it for free.

You may want to check out Hagar Moto - Intruder Viking on YouTube for good information. Very little difference year to year on the 1400s.

Hi Gianni! :ShitGrinandThumb: My Volcano Island living friend!

The Pressure seals are all the same, no matter the Model Number.

IIRC, then 1990 model did not come with the Piston Boot. It seems it was an upgrade later on and it had a different Piston (with a groove machined in it) to accept and hold the "dust" boot.

Given the amount of Brake Dust that accumulates on the Rear Brake Pistons, I upgraded mine to the Newer Pistons/Boot Seals when I rebuilt mine years ago.

You can check to see if yours come with this Boot seal easily by looking at them up close.

Hi guys, thanks for the quickly reply.
I have disassembled the brake calipers and I have removed the seals. the pistons of the rear brake caliper only have a seal and they are somewhat different from normal (they have a groove on the outside where the boot supposedly goes). the pistons of the front brake caliper have the seal and a dust seal. I have decided to have it manufactured here in Tenerife because in the end, living in the Canary Islands, ordering the revision kit would take 15/20 days to arrive... and I only have my motorcycle (it's been about 15 years since I don't have a car, only my motorcycle) and I need it now for moving. Here I use it daily all year round.
So do you think i get a L model?...
Regards to all!

Hi Buddy, how are you?
Yes it seems to be the pistón you are talking about. Mine it's like you describe (only the rear ones) but there wasn't dust Boots on it.
So i can't get a sample for the fabric to make it.

Hi Buddy!.

Are you saying that the Rear Pistons Groove is able to fit the Piston "boot" (it's actually a Dust Seal) as you have on the Front Pistons?

If you can,...some pictures of both would give us a better chance to be of help. :space:

From the little I know about the European models the main differences are in the emissions the rest of the bike is basically the same. When I was in Germany the local Suzuki dealer never had issues ordering parts for my US spec Intruder, but I never had to do any real engine work while there.

Ok guys i get it.

this site, introducing your VIN, give you the model and all the informations (i don't kno if it's onluy for germany or all european models too).

https://www.suzuki-motorrad-ersatzteile ... 51L&YEAR=J

I just discovered new informations of my bike:
It's not a 1990 ...it's a 1988 and the model is "J".
Or this is what seems to be.
Chassis say this, but I bought it in 2005 and it had already had two owners.
I'm really thinking that i get a Frankenstein bike.
1988 Chassis,
1990 - first registration in Italy (where i bought it)
1995 US engine (in 2010 i bought a used engine from US)
and i don't know how many parts modifications get it.
I have always thought that my bike was a 1990 VS 1400.

It might be a good idea to make this link available in the forum so that you can find out the model from the VIN.

https://www.suzuki-motorrad-ersatzteile ... 51L&YEAR=J

isn't it
what do you think about this?

Hey Juan - the 2 options for a dust seal are very different - it will be obvious from looking at your calliper which one you need.

Alternatively - they are pretty cheap - just order both.

Yes, I believe I do see the Groove in the Rear Piston that accepts the Dust "Boot" (seal).

Since the Front Caliper is "out in the breeze", the Dust Boot (seal) might not be so necessary. I know I didn't see a need when I was running Stock Calipers.

Now, the Rear,...that's different. There's alot less Airflow back there. Hence the need for the Dust Boot.
IIRC the Front Pistons are different enough that you just might not have enough Metal there to have them machined to accept the Dust Seal (boot) as does the Rear Pistons. Best check that.

The front pistons are flat, doesn't get the groove (OEM part pic here)
https://www.suzuki-motorrad-ersatzteile ... KI15349363
I get the two different seals (the seal and the dust)
with the front caliper i don't get probem i assume, the problems are with the rear one.
