This is a post that should be part of the first thing to reads when taking possession of your first Intruder.
I had no clue that this was the proper procedure to start it.
Mine was sold through a friend of the owner and he had no clue how it worked.
Thanks for this post, very helpful.

Any thoughts on what to do if I hear the pump and it does not stop clicking. Also when the bike does start it sounds like it is starved for fuel. It does not stay running very long.

Well, after the winter storage, the first time I start the bike, the pump runs for a long while before it stops.
Bare in mind that I took the time to empty the float before the storage, so it was bone dry and needed to fill it up completely, hence the long time.
Maybe yours is empty as well for some reason?
It would explain why it feels like it starves fuel.
I realize this post was months ago, I hope you found your problem since then.
