I'd probably change out the handlebars and tidy up the brake/clutch lines a little, and then try to do a fast flip. That's a pretty nice bike, it doesn't look like it needs much attention.

Welp; the raked one never answered anymore. Dunno what that was about. :bs:

This one has the tall bars.. not exactly apes but the clutch and brake lines are extended / longer ones.. so I'll probably have to dip into my parts stash to put those back to norm. He also put a round rubber type push button on the left panel under seat to start the bike and the switch housing where you would start/kill the engine is now just for looks. lol. On the right side panel under seat is a toggle switch to turn on/off the rear tail running light.. dunno what that was done for. That's about it.. the bike sounds great.. but I'll have to work on the paint and do something with the electrical maybe. lol. Not sure I like his mods so much. There was some kinda insulation shredded under the seat that I could see so probably a mouse got under there and started building a nest.. but haven't pulled anything off to look yet.

What would ya sell her for after a fixup?

Mark, I'd make a rule. All bikes start off at $2,595, unless there's some reason you think you can get more for it. Otherwise, downgrade price as necessary. If you think that number is too high, make up another number to start from. I pretty much think most everything coming out of Bronx Bikes Co. should hold at least a decent value to them. Just my own personal recommendation.

Haha, thanks brother!

I will be posting info and pics as I go with her. Haven't gotten to dig into her just yet.. today was a busy one doing other things. lol. I will be opeing the carbs and tossing in bigger jets etc, tweaking the a/f's and doing a sync. I haven't decided on if I'm going to make her a solo rider or not yet.. I know she'll have the power.. but what look is going to be interesting. I think I want to black her out since the chrome isn't all in such good shape.. especially the rims.

Mark, the only thing I care about is them gaud awful handlebars. Just get rid of those and the rest of the beauty will magically come back somehow!

So the nest wasn't so bad and luckily a wires insulation chewed off was just a ground. lol. Here's some pics. No filters.. box's and air ducts were clean inside. He cut the old clutch line right above the oil cooler and ran the extended line along the left side of the frame. He told me there were tools in the sissybar but didn't mention he drilled the criznap outa the lock. lol. Didn't see that one coming.

No biggie. Already cleaned the crap out and taped up the ground wire and yanked front and rear air box's out. Gunna leave the front out and chop up the rear just to leave me with enough to hold the fuse box and side panel on and put back in. Putting bigger jets, pod filters and running the crank breather hose into front pod. Blacking out the engine and sanding the fins. Few other things..

The apes were too big/wide to fit in doorway..

So put a short straight bar on so I could get it into the shop..
Image
Image

Had to set this up so I could support the 87 parts bike..
Image

And allow me to use my one and only jack to lift the 88 up..

And here's the box o paints.. 3 Satin Black VHT, 1 Gloss Black VHT, 1 Clear VHT, 1 Dupli-Color Adhesion Promoter Primer, 1 Dupli-Color MetalCast Metallic GroundCoat, 1 Dupli-Color MetalCast Anodized Red and a Trigger.
Image

Here's my plan.. lol. Strip it down.. clean everything, sand where needed, clean again, begin masking where needed and painting where needed.. which will be pretty much everything. lol.
I'm thinking of going gloss black on the engine's aluminum.. then sanding the fins.. then going over with anodized red. Doing gloss black on the lower chrome covers and anodized red on the upper chrome covers. Doing satin black on the frame, swing-arm, and maybe gloss black on the threes, forks, shocks and final drive. Tank and all tins shall be satin black.
Oh, satin black on the headlight bucket and speedo bucket but gloss the rings. Satin black the res, gloss the tops, satin black switch housings and idiot light housing. Gloss blacking rims and maybe leaving chrome lips.. gloss blacking rotor centers. Hmm...

I wish I had photoshop.. lol.

Looks like you're ready to get serious. [emoji106] That shop looks like a dungeon, dark and spooky. TURN ON THE LIGHTS! Just kidding. It's cool you have a place to work where no one will disturb the genius in you. [emoji2] Keep us up to date, we'll be watching.

Welp.. Been at it today. This is how things unfolded..
Started pulling off wheels, seat, panels, controls, headlight, idiot lights, exhaust, main wiring harness.. etc.
Took pics every so often just to show where I've been with it. While looking at things.. I saw oil under the final drive and when I elevated the rear.. it was dripping out where the shaft boot is. So rather than just swap the final with another I had.. I decided to remove the entire swing-arm and replace it all because I just didn't like how it looked. The u-joint had rust on it too so that's being replaced as well. I'm so glad I have all these extra parts on hand. lol. This thing is going to be like brand spanking new! lol. I wonder if I'm going too far.. or not far enough just yet. lol. Putting it all back together is going to be a doozie. haha. Fun though I think. lol. Oh and yeah.. it was dark.. I hada walk to home depot n pick up some bulbs for my flood lights. lol.

Taking pictures of the strip-down as you go is a good idea. I'd also keep notes on the sequence of dismantling to make it easier putting it all back together. That's turning into quite a project! After doing all that work you may just want to keep it. [emoji2]

Dang, well it certainly is in pieces now! More work than I'd want to do.
I'm sure it'll be sweet when you're done though.
