You're right, thanks, that is what I was confusing it with.
Is there any way of telling which car oils contain friction modifiers?
What kind of oil do I use in my bike

This is correct, but here it is without the ads.hurleyfrank wrote:there is a round logo on the bottle. http://i640.photobucket.com/albums/uu12 ... donuts.jpg
Current rides: 03 HD FLHT & 01 Yamaha XVS650(BIP)
Former: 87 Suzuki VS700, 94 BMW K1100LT & 91 Honda CB250
I don't want to own them all, just ride them all.

Just picked some up for the Harley. Best price I could find was $4/qt. And a HiFloFiltro filter. It the manufacturer that makes K&N. Cost is $5-7 less.Boonie2 wrote:Mobile 1 20/50 V-Twin , change every 3 K Miles ... $3.50 Qt. K&N filter $13
Always ran Rotella in the Intruder. Way cheaper, just as good performance. I use it in the Yammi now.

Re: What kind of oil do I use in my bike
Suzuki recommends 10w40, even embossed it on the filler cap.
If you run a heavier weight oil, especially in cool/cold weather, you can cause an oil starvation problem at start and to the hydraulic valve lash adjusters anytime the engine is not well warmed up.
None of the 10w40 oils are energy conserving and the ones that say they are don't have extra modifiers, they have different length polymers that give the different properties, they are just lighter weight oils that don't cause as much friction.
I was changing the oil in the car and the bike at the same time, the car calls for 5w30 oil and I accidentally put it in the bike. Ran it for 5000 miles, with no problems of any type. But I do have Designer's springs in it.
Put the 10w40 in the car, got exactly the same mileage as I did with the 5w30. Have a problem believing the "energy conserving" label.

I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.
