I have a 2004 vs1400, current bars are 6" rise double bend beefy. I would like to change again to 10" apes or maybe Z Bars with a small pullback....
I'm sure there are other variables, but how tall can stock cables goes? Will I need longer?
Thanks for any input..
10" ape or z bar

1) Temporarily remove the existing bars and lay them on a bath mat covering the gas tank.
2) Using PVC or wood dowels, create a mock up of the style of new handle bars.
3) Using is a string tied to the approximate location of the grips, tape the string to replicate the hydraulic lines.
After you are satisfied with the lay out of the lines, carefully remove the tape and measure the string. Add 10% for fudge factors and that should put you in the ball park of how long the lines need to be. [Don't forget the electrical stuff needs more wire too.]
... (Using C-clamps & broom handles, you can stretch out the existing lines and measure)

I recently started replacing all my hydraulic lines with Russel brand. They use threaded Banjo fittings, so later if I decide to change the bars, I simply order the segment affected by the change. Worked so far on 2 of my 3 bike coral.
IMHO
Shiny side up
