Headlight dim during acceleration

New to me 1993 1400 vs I have noticed at night when under hard acceleration my light dims. Question is if this is normal for these bikes or do I have some sort of problem. Thanks

2 things bear checking out.
1: Take your battery and have it load tested.
2: trace the wires from the alternator to the regulator/rectifier, there will be a plastic connector, split this and make sure the contacts are clean and not discolored, the 3 yellow wires are the important ones.

Yea, make sure those yellow wire connections are clean or they will arc and melt.

Slow down, you are exceeding the speed of light.

Electricty is made by the engine turning, it will make no difference if it is under load or not.

:bs: The load certainly does come into play.

I am talking load on the engine which has nothing to do with Voltage output.

The load on the engine??
Dude we are talking electrical load here.... read the threads title :bonk:
You are such a tool.

How can you diagnose when you dont read the problem. The op said that the light dimmed under heavy acceleration.

It doe'snt matter if he is pulling a caravan or going down a hill it does not affect the output of the regulator.

3000 RPM uphill or down is the same Fks sake.

You should know that the voltage changes when the rpms change, the excess is shunted to ground.

Yes of course I agree so what has heavy acceleration got to do with it that the op spoke of. --- Nothing.

He probably mean his bike seems to lose voltage under higher RPM. Now it becomes a bit clearer with some mechanical reason behind it.

After hours of chasing this down I found the problem in the headlamp bucket. Turns out I had a bad connection between some wires, problem solved for now. Thanks for all the help and input.
