The front carb cover has a small detent on the inner lip, this has to align with the small hole in the diaphragm. Long spring in front, short in rear.

Thanks Lechy

As for this photo, I wasn't able to unscrew the jet on the carb on the right (rear carb, right?). other than that jet, everything looks clean.

IS there anything else I should do/check before I reinstall the carbs? Thank you guys very much

OK the carbs are back on, but now it willnot turn over - cranks, then after I stop trying the exhaust may emit a small pop. What should I check?

Now the right exhaust pipe will pop with some white smoke and flames coming out

Hook up the fuel pump hot wire to the orange wire on one of the coils, this will by-pass the relay and allow the pump to run off the ignition without having to turn the engine, can be shut off with the kill switch. Turn on the ignition and allow the pump to run until stalls out (keep an eye on the carb overflow hoses) now try to start the machine. Next put a rag under the float chambers and unscrew the drain screws (may need poking out with a bit of wire) to see if the bowls are filling.
