94 vs 800 suddenly won’t start —clicking at starter
Stopped to get gas - filled up the tank - then clicking at starter. Battery? Or new starter?

Battery, make sure your connections are clean and tight.

It was battery - I think it was just drained -cells are low. Don’t know how they got so low it’s not even two years old

Take the battery to an auto parts store and have it load tested just in case it is about to go completely flat. Also use sand paper to clean the connections including the negative where it attaches to the frame.
If you have any type of electrical issue, have your battery load tested before you do anything else. Any auto parts store will test it for free.

I can't remember the last time I saw a bike battery that was refillable. They've been maintenance free style for years now.

It’s a Yuasa - I’m going to switch over to motorbatt batteries for my motorcycles

Where is the negative that attaches to the frame located?
Sorry for such newbie questions - I’ve rarely encountered problems where I’ve had to dig deep into a manual. I guess that’s one of the reasons I love my vs800s

I never had an 800 so I am not sure exactly where it connects but I am sure Navigator can tell you.

They normally attach the negative to the engine case at the rear of the motor...and it then grounds to the frame through the engine mounts.

Can you see when the battery was made?
I had some issues with Absorbed Glass Mat batteries that were pretty old when I bought them. They had been sitting in the shelf at the store for close to two years. Both had a very short total lifetime ( from made-on date to failure date) than a fresh battery would. So,...I went with Yuasa,.. wherein I could add the Acid/Fluid right before installing it. Am MUCH happier knowing it is a fresh as can be.
As to your cells being low on Acid/Fluid,...might there be some overcharging it? Do you use a Trickle Charger (which does shut off when fully charged) or a Battery Maintainer that does?
And does your Intruder overcharge? Not a common occurrence, but might be.

If the battery is vented it will need refilling with distilled water, at least, once a year. If it is sealed then it should last much longer than 2 years, unless it has a leak.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.

True, the Yuasa lead acid battery should be removed and filled with distilled water prior to recharging.
If it is a Yuasa, it is likely the original battery unless you replaced it.
The negative battery lead attaches to the frame on the right side just above the oil fill cap.

The Yuasa battery I bought is an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Battery that you fill just before installing. And the Mfr. says it is maintenance free,...so no adding water to it.
The model number is;
YTX16-BS-1
Here's a link to the Yuasa Website for this battery for you to peruse.

That battery is for the 1400, Prolly won't fit the 800 box.
The lead acid battery for the 800 is YB16B-A1.
But I recommend the Motobatt AGM as a replacement.

Re: 94 vs 800 suddenly won’t start —clicking at starter
I did some research and this is what I found;
The Yuasa YB16B-A1 (listed as for the 800) is indeed a conventional battery,...needing maintenance. ( Boo-Hoo)
I checked the dimensions and they are 160mm x 90mm x 161mm
And the YTX16-BS-1 ( listed for the 1400) has smaller dimensions...... they are 150mm x 87mm x 161mm.
Thus the AGM 1400 battery will indeed fit the 800! You would probably need to slip in some thin fillers to keep the battery nicely in place,...but,...it will fit.
Now that did surprise me.
BTW,....why I am using the No-maintenance AGM Yuasa Battery ( that we can fill ourselves) is because both I and my friend (who rides a 1500) have had some longevity problems with the Mototbatt AGM.
Just sayin' what we have experienced.

I don't know if my intruder "overcharge"s -- I don't think so as I haven't has this exact issue before. It was weird - running just fine for a few miles, stopped for gas, then tried starting it up as usual and ...click...Designer wrote: ↑Wed May 24, 2023 6:19 amCan you see when the battery was made?

I don't think I refilled the cells after trickle charging it over the winter, so I'm guessing and hoping that was the issue. I use a NOCO trickle charger - I thought it was supposed to shut off.
now you got me worried about my motorbatt battery. I don't know if its been sitting on a shef - got it off ebay...

Re: 94 vs 800 suddenly won’t start —clicking at starter
Mixed reports with the Motobatt stuff over here - they seem to fail more often with excessive vibration (admittedly, NO batteries like vibration). I don't use them so I don't have first hand experience.
Lithium batteries are becoming more popular - but they are twice the price or more. Good for bikes that are winterized as they will hold a full charge for over 6 months without the need for a tender. Also a lot lighter but you pay a premium.
