Unplug the pump electric connector and see if you are getting power to the pump. There is a relay that often goes bad which will cut power to the pump.

The pump should click / try to work without gas.
As stated check for power.
IIRC the 800 pump has an internal relay.
The 800 pump only operates during cranking or if the engine is running. It will not run with just the key on.
To check for flow, you can hook the pump up to the tank (or alternate source) and disconnect the hose from the outlet to the rear carb.
Install a new hose to the outlet and run it to an empty gas can. When the bike is cranked with the starter, gas should flow out of the outlet hose.

So attached the tank, put 2 gallons in it and disconnected the hose to the carb and connected fuel pump to a gas can — and no fuel coming out. So new fuel pump needed, right? Any recommendations where to buy (if this is true deed the case)? I’ve seen a new aftermarket one on eBay for $80.

That’s the one I bought - I don’t think it worked for me- have you ever bought one? Maybe I got a bad one?
I had a VS1400 not the VS800, the fuel pump I bought was just a cheap Chinese made one that worked fine for several years.
I think this is the brand I bought but am not sure. It did take a little creative bending of the fuel lines to make it fit right.
Lol - I think I originally bought one like this but returned it because I didn’t want to do the “creative bending”
I guess is the point that we’re (or I’m) basically stuck with the cheap Chinese ones or the $200+ NOS I can get at Ron Ayers or $80 one on eBay? And just hope for the best?

During this exercise, did you have the petcock open?
Did you crank the starter, as if to start the bike?
I didn’t check the fuses - but lights were on and it was cranking - I will check in a few - and yes, tried to start it and it was cranking and petcock was open

Put a test light or meter on the pump feed wires.

Take the pump power feed from the orange/white wire at the CDI. This will allow the pump to operate off the ignition direct.

Ok - so I ended up buying a new fuel pump for $20 on eBay and as soon as I connected it and turned on the bike it was tapping/vibrating like it was having a heart attack- just like the video!!!
So it turns out all this time I just bought a bad fuel pump in the beginning, and never realized it.
Learned a lot and hope to remember- Thanks for all your help guys!
