basically your swapping the rear end on the bike to one with taller gears. So just like swaping a trucks rear end taller gearing means more work to turn those gears. but it is only like 400 rpm difference so mute point IMHOXafius wrote:I haven't worked on a cruiser before.
If that is all it needs then that'd be easy.
Can you explain how it makes the drive train work harder?
Speedo problems.

So are there any advantages aside from the 400 rpm drop?

Nope but lower rpm means better mpg and less noise at cruising speed

First and second gear are barley affected. It's when you get into third and above. Really lowers the RPMs meaning you can stay in gears longer without shifting and highway noise and vibration is almost non-existent.
Where's John at? He's done it and thinks it's great. Probably learning the new laptop.

Re: Speedo problems.
You guys are a riot. The swap is easy to do if you take your time and believe you can do it. It took me longer because I was unsure of myself. The only real trouble I had was making the holes a little bigger and I had to use the 800 spacer. I did end up sending someone lots and lots of emails, but he was nice and helped me thru it. So far no problems and a lot of miles with better gas mpg. Of course pulling the trailer brings my mpg back down to what it was before the swap. Without the trailer I get around 62 mpg and with the trailer it is closer to 52. But then I don't do the twisties a lot and ride at or below the speed limit.ddog6900 wrote:First and second gear are barley affected. It's when you get into third and above. My apologies to Jolsen. I did the swap on the C50 so long ago, I forgot you have to reuse the shaft. (But that's OK, you wanna grease the splines in there anyway) But other than that, same as the VS.
