Longtime listener, first time caller....I’ve been riding Harley’s for years and now on an Indian Springfield Dark Horse, but I just picked up a 1995 VS800 as a project bike. Any words of wisdom regarding the Intruder line? I’m debating about either restoring it to its original self or maybe going with a stripped down bobber build. It’s a hard call because I’m really digging the stock look of this bike. Sounds awesome too.
Any ideas or thoughts are welcomed.

Don't bob it. JMO.
Depending on the mileage, I'd recommend removing the drive shaft and greasing the rear spline with a Moly Spline grease (80% molybdenum). The factory left a few unlubricated and they failed early.
Post your questions in the VS800/S50 section.

Congrats on picking a superb bike.
The less you modify the better it will be. Miles and miles of smooth riding.

.....and what ever you do, don't try to uncork it either. The 800s don't uncork. The 1400s will, but I'd highly recommend that even for the 1400, not to bother with it, it just ain't worth the hassle.

Re: Just got my first Intruder
I'm still a newb here, but I've had a couple of other older Japanese carb'd bikes. Just dailies, nothing crazy. They all tend to come with CV style carbs from the factory because for daily riding they're nice and consistent and less fiddly. Get it set right once and don't mess with it sorta stuff.
That said, they also don't respond as well to intake mods due to how they operate, but opening up the exhaust usually works just fine - just rejet up a bit after. Even OEM exhaust can benefit from a little carb work as they tend to be very lean from the factory for emissions reasons. Nothing that hurts the bike, just less fun
On a stock exhaust you won't really see many gains, but it will be smoother and a bit more responsive.
