I recently purchased a 96 intruder 1400 , test drove it first, ran great, then I get it home and I cant seem to keep it running . It starts then dies within a mile or so sometimes more. I am going to attempt to clean carbs and replace some lines that appear old , but if somebody has a diagram of how the fuel line are supposed to be routed , I would be a lot more confident in my attempt.

Before you get into all that Carb Work, might I suggest you check your Battery and it's Connections? These bikes will die if there isn't a good Battery and solid, well conductive Connections to it.
This work will be far easier to do initially than all that Carb work, and is foundational to all problem solving if it is not the source of your Bike dying.
Do tell us more about when and how the bike,.."dies". Is it sudden and instant? Does it seem to happen at he same Throttle position?
Stuff like that.

Designer's advice is a good first step.
More information would be helpful.
If it starts after a few minutes of rest then it is probably a fuel delivery issue. Try running it on reserve position on the fuel cock.
If that doesn't help let us know and we will try something different.
Do you have a manual?

I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.
