I was given an Intruder 800

Post by David-c »

Recently I was given a 92 Intruder 800. After years of trying to buy it off my friend, he just gave it to me. I have plans to do some chopping and modifying. Basically all my plans center around the single carb conversion. I saw a thread about this but cannot find it now that I have registered with the sight. If I can't convert to a single carb, I have some back up options.

I have been riding since 2006 and most every bike I have owned has been modified/customized. Here's a list in order:

Honda Shadow 600 (stock)
80s Yamaha Maxim rat bike
80s Yamaha Virago 920 'kinda chopped'
94 KZ1000 complete bobber w/ rigid frame
127ci (2100cc) custom Chopper with an Ultima El Bruto motor
2016 Suzuki DR650
2012 Kawasaki Vulcan fully dressed (daily ride)
...and a few motorcycles I have lying around that I plan on getting at one day.

Things is, the top half of that list was always the fun bikes that I regret getting rid of, so now I plan on chasing those dreams with this Intruder build. Going back to small Japanese motorcycles that are a blast to ride.

Welcome! Yah you like to modify, great I hope you have fun. Me, if I had a VS800 that rode and ran great, I'd not mess with that. I wouldn't chop. That's just me.

Most of the Intruders run the intakes at the rear of the heads - which makes a single carb conversion much more complicated than configurations where the intake ports are facing each other.

If you have any type of electrical issue, have your battery load tested before you do anything else. Any auto parts store will test it for free.

It would be nice to see how the single carb single intake runs out on the road

Agreed.

I would like to have a single carb so that I don't have to worry about the balance but I would like to know how it works.

I see no real advantage of the duel carb setup.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.

Interesting Carb set-up.

As I look at it, I wonder what effect the vastly different Intake Runner Length has. And also along with the vastly different Both-on-one-side Exhaust Pipe Lengths.

I would love to know who to contact to figure something like that out. Is that an Intruder?

Thanks all for the replies. Yes, running a single carb would be simpler if it weren't for figuring out how to make a new manifold. That's the not so simple part.
