Ohm Meter Question

Hi Guys,
I'm checking out my fuel cut relay. Here's my question - I'm on the 2K scale but when I touch the leads together they don't zero out. The lowest it will go is .005. Shitty meter or leads?
Edit - Oh, I just put in brand new batteries...

That's a fairly normal reading. First, it is well within the accuracy of the meter, and second, the contact resistance where the leads connect to the meter, and at the surface of the tips, could easily be that much.

You might try cleaning your leads with scotchbrite / steel wool. Back in the old days of analog meters, they had a pot under the meter that let you zero out the reading.

When you're testing windings or contacts and stuff, usually you're just looking for either/or, unless its a situation like a coil where you want to see a specific range or threshold?
Anyway, doesn't seem that amount of error would be signifcant in any way for the range you selected?
(full disclosure, I just wing it with a DVOM...I know I don't use them right, but I always manage to find out what I want to know...)
