So for the record and since it has been brought up in the post; there is classical art, that would be art works depicted in the Greek and Roman styles. For example the Venus de Milo which has been in several beer commercials.Then we have ancient pornography which would include those art work's of a pornographic nature, aka sex, orgies, beastiality, etc.... Rest assured that I would most definitely be in favor of firing any teacher who showed pornographic art to ANY student.

Ahhh...Monday morning. All is well. Kids coming off the bus, walking to the cafeteria for breakfast...half asleep.

Then...


BOOM!!!


Everyone's being called to the cafeteria for a fight. Fists were flying, hair was being pulled...CHAIRS WERE THROWN!!!

Our female AP took a chair to the arm and a punch to her face. The big, muscled support liason managed to get one of the girls out onto the quad. She fought him all the way, punching him a few times in the face. He kept pushing her back away from the cafeteria as all this girl wanted to do was get back into the brawl.

The deputy had one girl on the ground and had to call for other sheriffs to the school for assistance.

At the end of the day, 7 girls were suspended for 5 days, the AP had to leave early as she may have gotten her arm broken and the liason's cheek was swollen and his right hand is all swollen up. (I saw him at the end of the day...it looked nasty!)

I got the lowdown. When the one girl's mom was called, the mom thought the whole thing was funny. (I had that girl in my class last year and me and her mom got into it.)

3 Hispanics and 4 black girls.


If it wasn't for those damn teachers teaching these kids to act this way...


***And the sad thing is, the teachers I spoke with afterwards said they're just so afraid to even physically separate kids from getting wrecked that, should they put their hands on any kid they'll get sued or fired.

If you don't want to listen to the whole presser go to the 18:10 minute mark where he discusses holding student accountable. As T and I have both mentioned numerous times, us teachers deal with these punk "kids" on a daily basis.

If more parents stepped up - whether they're your kids or someone else's kids that YOUR kids have to attend school with - instead of blaming the teachers and school districts, and demanded enough is enough then maybe things would change.

Sgt, I agree, he did nothing wrong. Asking students to examine what is truly important to them and to consider how they might do things differently if they wouldn't be around 24 hours later goes to the very heart of how we view ourselves and how other's view is bear in mind his students are all 16-19 year's of age. So if this is not fluffy enough, there's a BIG problem.

Herb, what is it that you feel is inappropriate? Was it that the lesson occured right before an active shooter drill? We have those drills all the time. They aren't much different than a fire drill.
For those who are not familiar with active shooter drills, they go something like this; if the school is equipped with an intruder alarm, that goes off and all classroom doors close and lock. If no alarm the pa system says lockdown and all the classroom doors are closed and locked. Students move to an area in the classroom in which they can't be seen through any windows. There aren't any blanks fired or anything like that because the students might get scared . Many times these are scheduled but occasionally something happens at school and the admin locks it down out of an abundance of safety. In the stories instance it sounds like a routine practice lockdown.
If this guy sues the district he'll win. First off he must be told about the accusations brought against him, and what policy/directive was violated. According to the article they didn't. Secondly, even though he wasn't a union member, he was entitled to have a union rep or other person present. I hope he takes their ass to the cleaners.
I don't know what this schools policies are but in all the schools I have taught in or know people in, teacher's submit a weekly (minimum) schedule of lessons in advance of teaching them.

BTW, we didn't have "active shooter drills", we had atomic bomb drills and fire drills.

I'm betting my 7th/8th graders would get a kick out of that lesson!

First, remember that Florida is a right-to-work state. Second, this case happened in Orange County. Orlanda is generally a blue county, if that means anything.

As for the lesson, I really don't see what's so wrong with it, especially for 16 - 18 year olds. Knowning my class and my jokes and sarcasm, my students would come up with all kinds of crazy, and funny, things!


This also leads me to my point I've been trying to make for a long time...that is how out of touch parents are. The only time they come with pitchforks and torches is when something happens to their kid. EVERY OTHER TIME...they couldn't care less. And I'd be willing to bet that had the parents been more in-tuned with this class and the teacher they probably would support this lesson.
