A Rare Lunar Celestial Occurrence This Month!

This month,..we get to see a sturgeon supermoon (today, Tuesday) and a rare super blue moon will appear Aug. 30-31.

What is a sturgeon supermoon? The moon will reach its peak illumination at 2:32 p.m. EDT Tuesday, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac. After sunset that evening, turn your gaze to the southeast to catch a glimpse of the rising sturgeon moon.

The sturgeon moon was named for the large fish in the Great Lakes, which were most easily caught at this time of the year.

August also will see a rare super blue moon. The last super blue moon was in December 2009. After the super blue moon of August, you'll need to set a reminder on your calendar for the next one − August 2032, a full nine years from now.

WOW, that moon is BRIGHT!!.
The yard is lit up like a flood light.
I can make out the bark on the birch trees 100 yards away.

We had a haze overcast and it spread the light out. Even with the haze it was brighter than normal.

We've had clear skies the last few weeks during the late evening and night time hours.
My sweet wife and I took in the luminous sturgeon moon last night.

Dentist office in my back yard has installed two very bright security lights so we have to walk to her Dads home to catch the moon light.
it was extra bright last evening.
Hopefully I'll still be around to enjoy her again nine years from now
