Looks like a Dogfish shark (spiny). I could be wrong cause I haven't done much diving in a number of year's, but they're pretty common up your way. We used to reel in bulls on a regular basis down on the gulf coast. Not unusual to see hammers when diving in the gulf.
Scariest dives ever were in Panama. Huge tigers everywhere and I don't like them at all.

Tim, the way these kids did it ... they had kyacks. They'd hook the line to a kyack, paddle out about 300-400 yards, and drop the line ... then paddle back. Couldn't do this on a rough day with big waves. Water was calm today, almost looked like a lake. The first one ... the big one ... I swear I couldn't believe the bend on that rod ... and I can't imagine the test of the line not to snap. Kid worked his ass off to get it in. The next one ... the smaller one on the video ... was like a walk in the park. I swam before they got the big one ... and didn't go back in, LOL.

Just curious, why did they turn them loose?
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.

Tom, I wasn't paying much attention to the size until you responded. Those are too big to be dogfish. Judging by the size and dorsals they were probably sand tigers or sand bars. Sand tiger's are pretty aggressive and bite a lot of swimmers.

I didn't ask. But, I imagine they figure there's many of them out there, and what would they do with them? I guess they could have called the beach cops, but what would they do with them> I do hear they taste like chicken, LOL. These kids were out for the day for S&G's. They had a kayak, a few poles and a few knives. I don't think they had any way to move a shark down the beach to anywhere. You have to go down quite a ways from the parking lot to fish.

Just wondered, I like shark meat. BTW, it doesn't taste like chicken, it tastes like shark.
