Down with iPhone

Post by ddog6900 »

Now that I have your attention...

Congratulations to Apple, for finally releasing a device that can make use of the touch screen. (Even though Android has already been making large display smartphones for a few years now)

Anyone else see a reason to buy one? (Other than everyone else you know just did)

I personally, have no use for it whatsoever. The phone I have does way more than I really need already. I can call, I can text, I can play music and I can get videos and snap shots of things. The rest is mostly useless to me. My phone stay in my pocket, but it almost never rings. If it does, it's probably something important.

I just don't need all that other crap, I can still read a paper map if I have to.

Tell you the truth, I'm the opposite. Use it for everything. Just won't use an iPhone. My wife went from her rooted Android to iPhone (against my advice) and three months later, she's back to Android. She said it was like that Cortana Windows phone commercial, "I'm sorry, I can't do that"

My phone works well enough for me and I still paid too much for it.

I'm holding out for the Galaxy Note 4... Not a big apple fan. I have an iPad at work. But it won't accept USB devices like a flash drive.

A smart phone is like having a laptop in your pocket. The other day I couldn't find store I was looking for and I didn't have my GPS in the car. Whipped out my Galaxy S4 and googled the place I was looking for and hit directions. Then it gave me turn by turn voice directions from my current location. Way cool!

Nice. I won't say the phones these days aren't impressive, because they are.

I don't care to pay $100/month for the service though. The prices the service providers are charging is insane.

$45 a month though straight talk. and you get all the same stuff. Just about everyone I know uses straight talk these days.

Razr Maxx here. Does what I need. Company furnished it.
Ya know, the whole world would come to a screeching halt if smart phones were all somehow taken away for even a day. How spoiled we are today.

basic math. a 2 year contract for that "free phone" vs buying your own phone though straight talk.
$110 a month after taxes fees ect. or $45 a month after taxes fees ect.

$2640 for contract phone over 2 years.
$1080 for straight talk over 2 years.

that's $1560. that is your budget for buying your new phone.
most your smart phones though straight talk cost about $200.
That is still $1360 in savings for unlimited data, text, and talk.
or if you have to have the new crappy iphone or top of the line amazing droid. they have those also. for about $600
that is still $960 in savings. :bonk:

To me that's a no brainier.

fyi I just checked the site.

Samsung Galaxy S4 $499.99
Samsung Galaxy S®4 mini $349.99
Samsung Galaxy S III $279.99
Samsung Galaxy Ace™ Style $149.99
LG Optimus Fuel™ $59.99
iPhone 5s 16GB $550.00

And Jolsen said everything I would have.

Just let me add

At&t owns Cricket, same price, better deal if you have more phones.
Shop around, depending on where you live, prepaid services are always going be cheaper, always.

I switched to iPhone back when the 4S was new and that is what I still have. Like with an Android, you can jailbreak an iPhone and get a ton more options than stock. My wife has the 5S, which is faster than my 4S, but I have a case with my phone that I can't get yet with a newer iPhone.

When/if the 6 is jailbreak-able, I might upgrade to it; however, I am not in the "bigger is better" crowd concerning cell phones. I don't want a phone so large I can't fit it into my pocket discreetly and I don't want one so large that when mounted on my handlebars, I can't steer all the way in one direction! I do chuckle when I see people pull a phone out of their pocket or purse that is so large it seems like they're pulling a tablet out. I mean, when do we draw the line with bigger and bigger phones? Weren't bag phones too big? I guess we'll be back there before long. Kinda like bell bottom pants, huge phones will be back in style every decade or so.

I'm very happy with my 4S and see no reason to update for the time being. You do run into a problem with apps not working with the older iOS software and eventually, I will have no choice but to upgrade. I will cross that bridge when the time comes.
You have a 4S? When's the last time you had Android? It's like night and day now. Don't have to have a massive phone. I like the Nexus phones, pure android, only way to go. Like the pic above states, Apple will get to the future, eventually.

Like Siri says:

"This isn't going to END well for me, is it?"

And Sprint no less. Do you even make it through a full day on one charge?

Find it hard to believe you don't have one GSM carrier that gets a signal in your area. Sprint is overpriced and stuck in the technological past. They only give unlimited data because theirs is so slow. I get 4G LET speed that rivals my home Wi-Fi, on my phone.

For what I pay, which isn't much for 4 phones, I could buy an iPhone 6 right now for every line (not that I want one) and still have money left over vs what I paid when I had Sprint. Just sayin.
