bots and translator

Post by Larry TN »

How can yahoo and google bots be registered users? How can I get rid of that annoying google translate bar that pops up on every page? I have turned it off, and then it comes back....what am I missing here?

Problem lies with your browser, not the site.

Step 1 getfirefox.com, if you haven't already
Step 2 go to add-ons and download AdBlockPlus
Step 3 enjoy ad free browsing

There are SEVERAL bots, in fact MANY of them that come with the phpBB installation. They are not an issue with the board. All they do is gather information about the site like links to other places and the like and send that info to the bot owners for use in their search engines so that people can use those various engines to find us. They do not harm the site and we actually want them to find us so we can get more internet exposure. They don't and can't gather any personal information about users unless you post up such information that they can find.

As far as the google translate bar, I'm not sure about that one. I don't have that going on when I surf the net or come here. You probably have downloaded it from somewhere, or it's possible some site you've visited has installed it without your knowledge or permission. You could try going through your browser settings to see if you have a, 'plug-in' installed that's doing it. No one else has made mention of it here and coming here isn't going to be malicious to any users, I'm quite sure.

Larry I use Google chrome and to turn off the translate bar I had to go to the setting page. Click the 3 bars in the upper right corner scroll down to the setting and click it and then look for the box next to "Offer to translate pages that aren't in a language you read" and uncheck the translate box. You'll probably find it in the Show advanced settings section. Once I did that I didn't see the translate bar again.

BT, I have been using OPERA for a browser since microsoft abandoned IE. It is a minor pain, and only on here, that's why I asked here? Have a new computer with a newer OS but we are putting carpet down and renovating to make more space for my daughter, son in law, and an 11 yo grand daughter. Once done, I don't expect a problem as this antique puter is only used to cut vinyl for signs and lettering. Thanks for the suggestion, artist formerly known as John In Oklahoma. Oh, check out Cross Canadian Ragweed's song; "Them Boys From Oklahoma".

Interesting video. I'd hate to be the Okla redneck that tells Merle Haggard that he's been rolling his joints wrong all these years. :lolfall:

They did say "Boys", and I reckon that would not include Mr. Haggard.
