Throttle locks

Post by tc1400 »

May seem like a dumb question, but...with throttle locks...which do you have (if you have one)?
The universal clamp on type or an electronic cruise control? I wonder how safe these are, as I am considering one but would like some feedback first. Throttle rocker is OK, but not the same thing.

No electronic for our bikes.

My dad and I have used vista cruise for years. It works.

Since I have Kury grips I now have their mechanical throttle assist. Looks better.

It will never work like cruise. Just like in a car you will loose speed up hills and speed up going down hill. I love mine.

The thing I like most about the current setup is I can adjust the amount of lock down on the move.

I have steiger weights in my bar ends, and had to remove the rubber plugs. So I guess I can re-install those. I like what I'm seeing with these. Guess what's next on my 'must have' list?
Thanx.

The typical throttle lock has a thumb operated lever that you push to set it once you get to the speed you want. I doesn't hold the throttle so firmly that you can't still twist it either way any time you want to. It holds it with just enough friction to keep it from moving on it's own. You can always easily overpower it without any great effort. To release it you just flip the thumb lever the other way and the throttle works like normal.

They are not designed to be a cruise control which would actually keep your speed a constant one. They do provide you with strain relief and the ability to loosen your grip on the throttle and relax your wrist.

I love mine. It's a fairly cheap one costing about $30.00 at a bike shop near me. I bought it, spur of the moment as I was going to go freeway riding a while back. I almost never go on the freeway, but in this instance, I had no other choice and knew I'd be hating life without one.

I've had my vista cruiser for years. 3 trips and counting to the east coast and planning to go back next year. I'd never make it without a throttle lock. Sure you speed up going down hill and slow down going up hill, but just a minor adjustment on the throttle and you are back to set speed.

I noticed fleabay has the new gen breakaway for $139. Torn between this and the Kury throttle assistant. By the time a got a matching bar end weight for the clutch side with the Kury setup, cost is roughly comparable. Hummm?

That's because you probably have a vista cruiser throttle lock. I walked into the dealer said I need a throttle lock he handed me the VC and I gave him $30.
