Colin Kaepernick’s very public protests against the national anthem have inspired other NFL football players to take similar stands against what they consider to be a “racist” and “oppressive” song, one emblematic of social injustice.

But while Kaepernick and his colleagues have been lauded by some members of the press, and defended by others—even in some cases financially rewarded for their principled stands—students who choose to replicate Kaepernick’s protests on high-school campuses are facing harsh punishments.

High-school football players in New Jersey, Alabama and Massachusetts, replicating Kaepernick’s stand, are facing suspension from school, harassment from their peers and even, they claim, threats against their physical well-being.

I always thought that kneeling was a sign of reverence or submission; turning your back to the flag would be more to the point, no?

Kneeling is a sign of submission, standing is a sign of respect and courtesy... Huge difference. We don't submit to the government, but we do show respect for the IDEALS the flag and our government stand for. The dipsticks are not just dissing the flag, because they are refusing to stand for the national anthem.

The national anthem is a tribute to the brave men and women that have fought and died in the effort to maintain the freedoms and ideals that the flag stands for.

Keep in mind it isn't just the flag that is being honored, it is all of the people that have put their lives on the line to protect this country.

I realize that our government has strayed from those ideals, to a large degree, but that should not reflect on those that have given so much for this country or for the ideals that the country was founded on.

And it does piss me off when someone does this sort of thing. :hellfire:

Yes, I knew that, I was being facetious. As a Vietnam era veteran, it also angers me; even though the Fed. Gov. is now a corporation, rather than the Republic the organic Constitution promised. :bang:

Sorry if I misunderstood your point.

Thank you for your service.

Most people, even military people don't seem to understand that the National Anthem is actually a tribute to all of the people that have fought (served) to preserve "the land of the free and the home of the brave". However un-free (less free, not free?) we might be, the basic idea is enshrined in the founding documents. The fact that we are not as free as we should be is not because our founders didn't have the vision, it is because a certain segment of our population (libs, progressives, socialists, communists, muslims, and just plain stupid people) have actually worked to remove those freedoms from us.

This is from the 4th verse and spells it out pretty dam well.

"O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand
Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation!
Blest with vict'ry and peace may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the power that hath made and preserv'd us a nation! "

That Anthem is actually for all of the thousands of "freemen" (and women) that have stood up for our freedoms. The flag is a symbol of these freedoms. So when one of these a$$#oles pulls their anti USA crap, they are actually dissing ALL of the people, of every race, color and creed that have died for our freedom, including the freedom to be a total jerkwad.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.

Herb, thanks for posting that 4th verse, I was unaware of it. Designer, I apologize for inadvertently misleading you; your praise is misplaced. Although I served from Jan. of '71 through '74, I never left the States. I was stationed at Scott A.F.B. (just out side Belleville, Illinois) at the 1st A.S.F. (aeromedical staging flight) as a medic. I was evening shift supervisor for my last year or so. Almost everyone coming back to the states came through us & we kept them from 1 to 3 days, provided medical care, & sent them on to their final destination. Again, sorry about the misunderstanding. :bang:

When I went to school, it was a MUST to recite the Pledge of Allegiance every morning while standing with our right hand over our hearts while facing the American Flag! That was back in the 60's, but even then there was religious tolerance in that, not everyone had to do so if their religion was somehow, "different". In those days, it wasn't considered a protest.

Considering the times now, I think that was the beginnings of the problem we have now, coming full circle. There wasn't a mandatory requirement for everyone to pledge allegiance, it was really, only a suggestion.

Now days, I hear they don't even have to recite the pledge any longer. From what I get, the kids show up for school and the mainstream liberal thinking is portrayed to them, without them (kids) even realizing it.

It's just more shit that wants to make me scream!

Believe it or not this was foreseen by some of the founding fathers of this nation. They even warned us it would happen if we didn't follow the constitution. Just read some of the saying made by Thomas Jefferson and a few of the other far seeing people of his time. The America we know is doomed and our future is a major civil war and the true American patriot is out numbered this time by the blacks, the Mexicans, the freeloaders, the libs, the lazy and those that wish to do us harm. It pisses me off to know my grandson will never see the America I grew up in or joined the Navy for. :hellfire:

The United States Did Not Lose The War In Vietnam, The South Vietnamese Did.
Read On…

The fall of Saigon happened 30 April 1975, two years AFTER the American military left Vietnam. The last American troops departed in their entirety 29 March 1973.

How could we lose a war we had already stopped fighting? We fought to an agreed stalemate. The peace settlement was signed in Paris on 27 January 1973. It called for release of all U.S. prisoners, withdrawal of U.S. forces, limitation of both sides’ forces inside South Vietnam and a commitment to peaceful reunification. The 140,000 evacuees in April 1975 during the fall of Saigon consisted almost entirely of civilians and Vietnamese military, NOT American military running for their lives. There were almost twice as many casualties in Southeast Asia (primarily Cambodia) the first two years after the fall of Saigon in 1975 than there were during the ten years the U.S. was involved in Vietnam. Thanks for the perceived loss and the countless assassinations and torture visited upon Vietnamese, Laotians, and Cambodians goes mainly to the American media and their undying support-by-misrepresentation of the anti-War movement in the United States.

As with much of the Vietnam War, the news media misreported and misinterpreted the 1968 Tet Offensive. It was reported as an overwhelming success for the Communist forces and a decided defeat for the U.S. forces. Nothing could be further from the truth. Despite initial victories by the Communists forces, the Tet Offensive resulted in a major defeat of those forces. General Vo Nguyen Giap, the designer of the Tet Offensive, is considered by some as ranking with Wellington, Grant, Lee and MacArthur as a great commander. Still, militarily, the Tet Offensive was a total defeat of the Communist forces on all fronts. It resulted in the death of some 45,000 NVA troops and the complete, if not total destruction of the Viet Cong elements in South Vietnam. The Organization of the Viet Cong Units in the South never recovered. The Tet Offensive succeeded on only one front and that was the News front and the political arena. This was another example in the Vietnam War of an inaccuracy becoming the perceived truth. However, inaccurately reported, the News Media made the Tet Offensive famous.
