My new bike is crap.
Well, Kawasaki is issuing a recall all over the world except the US for the Z900. Seems one of the suspension components can rip out of a weak frame mount. They've come up with a bandaid solution that will probably correct that problem but move it to another part of the frame, probably the welds. It's a poor design. I was starting to dislike this bike before this issue popped up, but now I'm completely disgusted with it. It's affecting resale value drastically; it's almost impossible to sell one and dealers are starting to discount the hell outta them.

Re: My new bike is crap.
Can feel a little of what you are going through. My best and worse bikes were both new Suzuki's. In 1978 after two great GS750 fours a new Buick took me for a loop and bent the forks on my months old 78. I bought a new 1978 GS1000 same day. It was the bad chain drive one that VANCE and HINZ had set the new pro stock records on. It was such a great handling bike and fast. After lots of putting KZ 900 and 1000 down easy luck ran out.Was on a back road with a friend were we practiced a lot for the drag strip. At red line it blew a clutch basket and put a silver dollar size hole in front of the rear wheel at red line!.Four qts of hot oil in front of the rear wheel makes for a wild ride.Luck with me that when off road and in tall grass got it to stop with out going over.
After Suzuki put a new set of cases on order sent the crank to Fl. to Falcon to be beefed up as lots were bending the cranks at drag strips. After two month wait cases came and back together with a little hotter cams. Then it blew four more clutch baskets! Sold it to a friend that took it to a machine shop after blowing yet another clutch basket at the drag strip! Had it made to take the new 1980 GS1100 basket and ran for a few years with that set up.Spent enough money on that bike to but a new one Hope your's turns out to be good.

Perhaps they'll offer to recall and repair the US units soon...MattSunn wrote: Well, Kawasaki is issuing a recall all over the world except the US for the Z900. They probably will as soon as their legal department figures out how to fight the inevitable class action suit.Cuban wrote:Perhaps they'll offer to recall and repair the US units soon...MattSunn wrote: Well, Kawasaki is issuing a recall all over the world except the US for the Z900. Bummer MattSunn .......Your luck with motorcycles is just as bad as mine.....
Two bright spots of the 14 were my 02 1400 which I should have never sold
and my 04 Harley Deuce [emoji106] ....both bikes were jewels
The rest of them ...well lets just say I could have done without the hassle of being a parts replacement specialist

Re: My new bike is crap.
Mattsunn, ain't a big deal, and the internet explanations always make it sound worse. If they didn't issue a "stop riding" recall, it's not anything.
I suspect that the r&d folk's noticed something (improper or insufficient weld, bolt not up to reliability standards) and they want to cover themselves against liability.
Remember the 99 TC88 HD motor with bad cam bearing's that weren't, the goldwing frame welds, and even BMW had a recall for faulty rear shock. The internet was all a buzz with crashing resale values and risking life and limb riding these bike's. All bs!!!
Go ride and enjoy

Re: My new bike is crap.
The r&d folks probably noticed several bikes with the failed part torn out of the mount, has nothing to do with welds or bolts. And their legal department wants to cover their ass, not r&d. Resale value on this bike actually does suck. I was not really enjoying this bike before this issue, so I won't be riding it much even after the correction. Aside from a KLR I owned briefly, this is the most uncomfortable bike I've ever owned. Wanna buy a lightly used Z900?Tbeck wrote:Mattsunn, ain't a big deal, and the internet explanations always make it sound worse. If they didn't issue a "stop riding" recall, it's not anything.
