I have no sympathy at all.

When I was in the building trades many of my coworkers who had enough years and so qualified opted for early out and began drawing from our union retirement fund. However, our great health insurance only applies to hours worked and so these guys had concern about health insurance coverage until they reached 65 and Medicare. Well, I suggested HSA and was told that is a disgusting Republican idea! Ohfuckingwell! They chose to pay exhorbitant Cobra and vote for Obama socialism. Ignorance at best. Obamacare continues to heap havoc and so you elect a socialist twice and reject HSA as a viable option, way I see it you reap what you sew as a nation. I have no sympathy, ignorance and stupidity are not valid excuses.

SJ, I am not disagreeing with you at all. We both know and knew before Barrycare went into affect that it was opening the door of abuse by insurance companies.
Your homeowners example show's where Barrycare went astray. Pre-existing medical folk's should be able to get insurance, BUT like high risk homes, should pay more.
The problem is folk's have been convinced that insurance is an entitlement, and to be honest it has become necessary. You may not use it for decades, but when you NEED to it's necessary given medical care costs.
I'm even in favor of carrying kid's until 26 so long as they're in school. That doesn't cost anything to keep dependent's on a paid policy.

Here's the flip side. ER's cannot turn away anyone due to inability to pay. The hospital can't afford to eat those costs so they get passed on to the insurance companies via higher service prices on insured individuals, and those costs passed on to the insured in the way of premium increases.
So I get the opposition to forcing citizens to purchase insurance, BUT we need to address the legislation which stop's hospital's from turning away those unable to pay before eliminating the mandate. Without addressing the aforementioned premiums are still gonna go up.

The way to lower hospital cost for patients is to lower the cost of drugs, tests and other procedures done while in the hospital. Hell, half of the drugs could be thrown away for all the good they do.

The handicapped lady next door gets some meds in the mail every two weeks and the cost for those meds are over $6200 for 14 pills. I have watched her take these pills for a couple of years and can't tell any difference in her. To me it is a waste of money that the government (Medicare) could save if they really wanted to. But the Drs. she sees says she needs them so she continues to take then and the government keeps paying for them.

My mom was in the hospital once for a week and when she got out she got a bill that we reviewed and it listed on it 2 aspirins $14. That is $7 a piece for common aspirin. Hell you can buy the whole bottle for less than that.

We can go outside the US and buy name brand drugs for a whole lot less than what we pay in the USA. The big pharmacy companies control the government (congress) and the Drs. and the people are the ones that pay, especially when they are sick and can least afford it.

There is a cure for cancer... "a cure for cancer" and not just for the symptoms. Every Dr knows that cancer can not live in an oxygen enriched environment. That is just one cure, there are plenty more that big pharma doesn't want the people to know about because they can't make money off something they can not patent.
