Yah this stuff is getting more frequent as archaeology and exploration of maritime stuff is becoming more common.
We had a guy I went to college with do a major research undertaking on the war of 1812 about 12 year's ago. You'd think that it would be pretty well written about since we live on lake Erie where the fleet was built, but it wasn't until he did it.
Maritime history and archaeology are only now beginning to get started with any effort.

I've heard the Great Lakes are just littered with shipwrecks, and the cold fresh water tends to preserve, but that's incredible.
