My first Sportster. The EVO's are better. Arguably, the reason Harley's have a reputation for leaking oil is because of the early Ironheads.

Never owned one. This one caught my eye.
Wanted an Evo, but like how this one looks.
Thought about trading my V Star for it.
But if I don't, the bobber project keeps rolling.

That Ironhead looks to be 82-85, somewhere in that range. I like the turtle tank.

82 Roadster was a sportster style way back right? This to me looks like a stock hard tail pan head with stock two piece tank.They just took badges off and did not put speed-o and middle tank strip back in.Last year for two piece tank was 1999 soft tail.

You're correct Keith. And old time rider is correct about the bike in my signature. That's an old style Pan. Yes that is a iron head sportster. Last year 1985 . The tanks on the old pan do take on a custom look with just the badges off and tank strip and speed-o not on.They look stock other wise.My first Harley was a 1954 FL Pan. Early pans 1948 to some where in the early 50s could be 61 or 74 ci. Be a man ride a pan is a real old line.

Harleys are like old chevys in that you can mix so many years together from junk yard parts with out machine work.
The curved rear fender struts first came out on some sportsters in 1979 and went all the way through 1993.In 1994 they went back to the straight ones.Five speed came in 91/92 and belt.883 got them in 93. Big harleys had belt as a option was back in the early 80s in police bikes and 1980 Sturgis had belts at both front and rear of motor. Like lots of car/trucks you may see some made to get rid of parts or war time.
At a cruise in two weeks ago saw a 1941 Ford pu with a ford four in it stock! Seems they put a tracto four and radiator in a small number that year.Carl David may have known this but first for me.The pick up in 41 look like the 40 but have a wider strip on the hood.Big 41 trucks do not look like the 40. 1932 Ford came out with the v-eight and was a big hit but still had the four in a B model that ran through 34 I think?
