Electrical diagram specific to 1985 vs750.

Post by Vicsintruder »

Hey guys.
I'm working away at getting my 1985 VS750 back on the road.
I am having trouble figuring out the kill switch.
The wiring diagrams that I have found show an orange and white wire to the kill switch then an orange and white coming back to feed the coils and cdi. Then the yellow and green going to the clutch.
My bike has a orange and white along with a black with red stipe going to the kill switch and the orange and white and yellow and green to the starter switch.
There are quite a few differences between these early bikes and the later ones. Try to find an brake rotor or an oil filter.

I can't help with the electrics, all my schematics don't have the extra wires you refer to.
For the brake rotor, ebc and others have the wide 5, the small 5, and the small 6.
You could pick up a 800 wheel and turn it around since your rotor is on the left and update to the common 6 lug. Just be sure to mount the tire in the proper rotation.
Your rotor looks like aftermarket in this pic, and not in bad shape...looks like a small 5 lug.

The 80/90-21 and the 100/90-15 have similar rolling radius, so your speedometer won't be an issue.

The wide 5 can be had used or new:

I have a used OEM small 5 with normal wear, 4.67mm thick, (4.5mm is minimum) if your current rotor is bent/warped.

Thanks for the offer but the rotor is new. It is from a 750 honda a wide 5 lug, I had to mill the center out about 1 mm but it fits nicely. Image
My biggest issue right now for parts is getting my head around paying 25-50 bucks for an oil filter. The only ones I have found so far is hi-Flo who appear to have discontinued it and amsoil. It uses the HF134 as opposed to the HF138. They are very much different. I'm actually using a Harley oilfilter I picked up for my 14 Heritage.

You can remove the threaded adapter for the filter and replace it with the one from the bad motor.

Thanks brother. I will do that.
Also I found a schematic that shows that the black with red wire goes to the sidestand relay. I am going to eliminate it by splicing it into to the orange and white that goes to the starter then it will feed the starter as well as the coils and cdi.
