Scouting the Scout

So, for shits and giggles, I went out to the Indian dealership today. They were offering test rides for Test Ride Tuesday, every Tuesday in April. It was too cold last week, so I decided to go today. 55 was warm enough. Got a free T shirt out of the deal, so what the heck.

My impressions, from a technical standpoint.

Lots of torque, more than any 1200 I've ridden anyhow
The bars were reduced to 7/8" at the grip, for some reason
Lots of annoying light buzz at any RPM
Very tight control
Good foot position
Slightly clunky gear box, around the lower gears anyhow
Smooth power delivery
Very uncomfortable seat
Tight turning radius, simple single lane u turns
Wide tires, low center of gravity
Brake seemed a little weak

All in all, it just made me miss my little Intruder, but it was a very different bike.

I also test rode the Scout. Seemed to be about as fast as my 750 Magna, handled well. I didn't notice any vibration and I thought the gearbox was fine, no clunkyness. Definitely quicker than my 1200 Sporty. I thought the foot position sucked, and that with the stretch to the bars and the terrible seat made for a very uncomfortable motorcycle. But I'm a short guy, so the bike may work better for taller riders. Loved the engine tho. It's not on my list.
