Hi,
I added the radiator water reserve (34) to my Trudy (which was missing).
But now something strange happens... before adding the reserve Trudy spit out the extra water, and half a bottle (400 ml bottle) was enough to completely fill the radiator again, now with the reserve a whole bottle is missing in the radiator , sometimes it's even more than a whole bottle...
Isn't that weird? Is this perhaps a known defect? (reason why the reserve was removed)
(I thought about a suction effect on the reserve exhaust, the pipe is very long, redid the radiator cap gaskets, but not much has changed)

The cooling system is supposed to be a sealed system - if you are losing coolant then there is a leak somewhere.

An Air bubble or a stuck thermostat will do the same thing

Yeah true but he is now talking about a continual loss of a pint or more?FallenAngel wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 4:43 pmAn Air bubble or a stuck thermostat will do the same thing

Re: Less water with water radiator reserve
I'm filling the radiator to the brim because some time ago I disassembled the engine, then I changed the pipes, etc. and it's been a while since I've filled it completely.
When Trudy warms up with a full radiator, after a while she spits out the extra water (water and steam), having added the reserve I thought the water would end up in the reserve, and then cooling down again in the radiator (almost all) and instead water and steam come out from the drain of the reserve, and the following day I find less water in the radiator than when I didn't have the reserve...
It seems strange to me...

Re: Less water with water radiator reserve
I suggest filling the radiator and start the bike with the cap off
Watch the coolant The coolant should expend for a moment and the retract back into the cooling system
If it gets pushed out when it gets hot then you have other problems
You may want to remove the thermostat to take it out of the equation and test it to see if it opens
With the thermostat out it should be stable and not over flow
It isn't extra coolant its expanding and should go into your reservoir and when the coolant cools gets pulled back into the engine

Re: Less water with water radiator reserve
Is the coolent that is spit out remaining in the reservoir? If it is draining out of the the reservoir there is a major problem with the reservoir. As F/A said, the coolant should be pulled back into the engine as it cools.
I can't seem to win the lottery. I think I have used up all of my good luck riding motorcycles.

what colour is the engine oil? Do you have a drip under the water pump?
Grow old disgracefully young man.

Re: Less water with water radiator reserve
oh, I had it, Trudy had the hydro shit
https://youtube.com/shorts/qIa4SYhtqDc? ... Ff3BfqsrL2
The idiot mechanic who changed all the cylinder gaskets filled the engine with silicone...
but after a new pump and some leak stoppers (for safety) now the problem seems solved...
https://youtube.com/shorts/m6D8X4erkZM? ... mtFTk3GpOP
And anyway, steam and water were coming out even before this problem, the usual half bottle...
a few days ago I removed the thermostat, I'm testing, but it doesn't seem to have changed much, even if sometimes an entire bottle is missing , sometimes just a few drops...
I don't know... i'll continue testing for a few more days, then I'll remove the reserve to see if anything changes...
