I just bought my first cruiser less than a week ago. It's a 1996 1400. The fella I bought it from told me using the choke is the fastest way to foul the plugs so he advised not to use it. I've never heard this. I've used the choke on everything else I've owned from chainsaws to dirtbikes. Not to mention my old 66 Chevy. Is this true? Or is he full of it? Thanks ladies and gentlemen.

The choke is really an enricher, not a choke.
It aids in starting the bike, and is over ridden by the throttle.
So....prime the carbs, engage the choke, and start the bike without touching the throttle.
