Re: I went down....
Just got a new computer after nothing but crashing on old one so just now reading this. Hate to hear about guys going down on their machines. Never worry about a replaceable bike but about the rider. We're not made of steel though we thought we were when we were kids. Hope the healing goes well for you and good gear is there for our protection even though a du-rag and t-shirt were my gear 90% of time I was just lucky to never need the gear.

Re: I went down....
Yeah I've been guilty of just going down to the shops in a tshirt and shorts but never without a helmet. They've been compulsory here from before I started riding but even if they weren't I couldn't imagine not wearing one.bassman wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 5:37 pmJust got a new computer after nothing but crashing on old one so just now reading this. I remember a sales guy at a bike shop many years ago said to me "you'll end up spending as much on a helmet as you think your head is worth". I reckon you can apply that to all the other safety gear as well.

I'm not gonna lie - I didn't go very far and it was pretty painful. I have limited movement in my right arm and the ribs still tickle over every bump. Does make you choose a smooth line thoughFallenAngel wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 9:41 pmGlad to hear your up for a putt on your scoot even if its on a scooter your in the wind

Re: I went down....
Cheers MC.
Bike is still being assessed but will likely be written off. It's a bit more drawn out because I was in a regional area in another state. Hopefully find out this week. Don't care about it and don't want it back to be honest.

Re: I went down....
As timing would have it - just got a call from assessor who advised the bike is a write-off. Frame was twisted in the impact so it will be a statutory write-off and unable to be reregistered.
Recouping what I paid for it so that's a relief.

Re: I went down....
I glad your feeling better
Still if I may say Dont rush it Limited movement means useless if you go down again and cracked ribs are weak ribs
Just be really careful
I would hate to loose you even if your doing something you enjoy

All good FA - thanks for your posting but I'm not going to rush it. Still a few weeks away from jumping on a bike. The scooter is easy to ride so that was my test bed. I realise I still need more time to recover.FallenAngel wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 10:29 pmI glad your feeling better

Re: I went down....
So just as an update I've ridden the scooter a few times but not jumped back on a bike as yet. There's tendon damage and I am seeing a specialist about that soon. Movement is improving but only so much.
On a brighter note - the insurance replaced some of my gear...
HJC modular, ONEAL Safari boots (same as the old), IXON Adventure gloves and Kevlar jeans with armour.
My old jacket is still OK so I'll keep that until I find something I like better.

Re: I went down....
hillsy, you'll ride a little more apprehensive for a while but the good part is you walked away, even if a little worse for wear.
Take your time but definitely get back out there. Remember the stuff you did wrong and don't do it again

Re: I went down....
So some mixed results - definitely totally severed the tendon from my biceps to shoulder. That was from the accident but the specialist also thinks the tearing in the other 2 tendons was previous damage. I broke my collar bone on the same side about 15 years ago (falling off a bicycle) so I can only think that was the time? Seriously never noticed anything wrong.
Anyway the shoulder is now "frozen". Probably as a result of the accident but also a few months of limited movement. Doc is reticent on operating right now as he feels the frozen shoulder will inhibit the rehab. So I got a Cortisone injection in the joint yesterday to kill the pain. Feels heaps better already and will revisit the surgery option with the doc at the end of January after more physio.
Doc also said I can do what I want now as the shoulder won't pop out again (within reason)....so I guess I need to go new bike shopping

Re: I went down....
Well I hope your gathering goes splendid.
My dear wife is cooking up the bacon and washing the broccoli heads for the broccoli salad she'll finish making up tomorrow to take to our family gathering.
I'll be cooking up the ham tomorrow and making up my famous potato salad which neither are going to the gathering. We'll eat up my stuff after we get back home, and of course we put some together for my daughter and son to take. I could eat it all but it is Christmas .
Either way it should be fun for you seeing what your next ride should be? Any ideas as to what you might be looking for?

Re: I went down....
I'm still thinking ADV bike. I'm pretty long in the leg and most "normal" bikes just don't work for me any more as far as seat to peg distance.
I've ridden the new Suzuki 800 Strom and it is nice. Still powerful but a little taller and lighter than my old 1000.
Probably 800 or 900 ADV of some description. It will be fun confusing myself with test rides anyway
