VS1400 choke

Post by geeintruder »

Greetings riders,

i own 93 intruder vs1400 for a year plus, one thing came up to my mind is how hard it is to turn the engine when its cold, also i removed the choke cable when i rebuild my bike previously. if the engine is cold, its really hard to fire up, it also consume my battery until it ran out of juice. but if the engine is hot, it does not have any problem and fires right up.

i would seek for help from members here, if you could take a pic of where does the choke cable connected to, i might need to re-install and mod a new choke cable. since i misplaced (or maybe threw away) my old choke cable. i could find in the manual where the choke cable goes (i have complete manual, both service and workshop manual)

There's two plastic hex head fittings on each carb a choke/enricher cable with a spring and plunger on the end. Shouldn't be hard to find the bits you need on eBay
Current rides: 03 HD FLHT & 01 Yamaha XVS650(BIP)
Former: 87 Suzuki VS700, 94 BMW K1100LT & 91 Honda CB250

I don't want to own them all, just ride them all.

It connects to a port in one of the carbs. All it does is expose an enricher port in that carb when it's turned on. A single screw holds it in the carb end and it can slide back and forth as you turn the knob. I suspect if there is not one in place, you are not only having cold start issues but wasting gas when it's warmed up!

it doesnt seems to be eating alot of gas while its running warm, ive filled my tank with 9 litres of gas, ridden 100+ km, and still have gas in my tank. it only bugs the bike when i try to start when its cold.

back to my OP. i need someone to pinpoint (pictures if possible) on which part of the carb that the choke attached to.

EDIT: i manage to locate where the choke is attached to, i got 1 set of spare carbs front and rear, so i had a thorough look of it, and manage to locate them, it seems to be i need to think of something to make it work, unless i am patient enough to wait 1 month or 2, order from ebay.

Original Suzuki parts should be available, and not too terribly spendy.

That doesn't seem too bad. Highway riding I use around 5.5L/100km. I get between 200-225km per tank depending on hills, wind and my right wrist.

good news ya'll, i installed a redneck style choke system, ran the cabling and so on, easy to start now, so i can order from ebay and wait for it for better whole new choke system, as long as now i can easily start the bike
