I had 18 ounces of silver, but lost 3 ounces somewhere. :bang: So that leaves me with just 15 ounces and I hock 5 ounces every month just to gets ends to meet money wise. At least the pawn shop gives me $15 an ounce no matter what the price of silver is. [emoji106]

Shit dude...I'd give you $20...I'd like to have it you'd be getting better than spot, if it stays around where it is. Shipping for 2-3 wouldn't be but a couple of bucks 4-5 less than $5, I could cover that.

Let me know. [emoji106]

Jeffco, I pawn it for 3 weeks or so and then buy it back for $8 more than they loaned me. So I get to use their money ($75) for 3 or 4 weeks for $8. I think that's fair. If I sold or pawned it to you I'd have to pay the shipping and then wait days to get my money from you and then days again to send you the $8 (like you're going to loan me $75 for 3 weeks for that) and then wait for my silver to get back and by then we have to do it all over again. :bang: Ain't going to happen, sorry.

Oh no. If I have to sell it I'd go someplace else than a pawn shop. I have a tube of 10 bars that I'm hoping to give to the grandson for Christmas or his birthday which is in Jan. 3 days after mine. Then it'll be time to start all over with the buying and hoarding with the exception of the 5 ounces I pawn every month. :HatTip:

It would be nice if you could re-jigger things in such a way that you break outta that cycle...that's like having a sandbag around your neck when you're already having trouble floating. Hopefully you get that policy money your sister said and maybe use some of that to break the cycle. Not criticizing, I've been there. My ex had a real hard time with the concept of just roughing it for a couple of weeks to stay clear of that...got us into payday loans and title loans and all hella stuff...and long ago I would sometimes pawn stuff but always seemed that the extra to get it back just set me on a course to need it again...anymore if I run into problems and need money I just part with something I can live without, and be done with it.

I guess that's another value of this stuff...even though short term its a losing strategy, if it came down to it I have quite a bit of liquidatable value sitting there...if it were just saved money, I'd spend it or something would happen to make me feel like I had to use it. When its tied up in a different form and would be a little hassle and a little loss to use it, I'll leave it alone and try harder to find alternatives before selling it, because I like it...so there's that :donno:

I am terrible with money. I know as abstract concepts how to use it, but it was never taught to me in a way that made sense, and my attempts to try to save always seem to get washed away in some avalanche of circumstances. All I can say then is that at least it wasn't as bad as if I DIDN'T have any money saved, but that's kinda empty consolation...

You are right I have gotten myself into a fix with the pawning of the silver every month. But it helps when I need a little money for things like the wheel bearing 3 months ago, a tire last month and the month before and I had to borrow $100 from the lady next door to pay the van insurance this month. So that means I didn't even make it home with all the policy money I got from my sister. :bang: Yes, I got the money, ($759.08) a whole $5 more than I was told. :lolfall: But I didn't make it into the house with all of it as I have to pay the lady the $100 I had borrowed. :bonk: Now I only have $659.08 to play with. But that is $659.08 more than I had yesterday at this time and I have 6 months of insurance. Now I need to sit down and decide what to do, spent it or save it? I do need the extra room built in the cabin, I could use the extra batteries and solar panels, I need to open a saving account down here in Eufaula so I don't have to make that 70 mile trip, one way, every month to get my SS money in Seminole. There are plenty of other things that I need but I'm not sure just how badly I need them. :Umm: Oh and I need to get that tire put on the bike rim asap. :bang: It's going to be rough deciding what to do or not do with the money. Well you are only a $26 round trip from here, so if you ever need help with the bike or the place I can come if I have the extra $ for gas lying around.

Have you shopped your auto insurance? I started wondering about that some time ago and found that State Farm of all places was the cheapest for me, and I'd been paying $30/mo more than I needed to for years...my policy through them now costs me $29/mo. Can't beat that. [emoji106] I was with GEICO and they had always been cheapest years ago last time I'd checked...

Yeah a bank account would help too. That's long hike to just deal with a check every month. Lotta banks now will open a debit checking account for you even if your credit or banking history is a bit spotty. They call it a checking account but it's not really, you don't get any checks. But if you do that you want to set it up so that there is no overdraft protection or anything like that where you can spend into a hole and end up owing them overdraft charges. And you gotta be careful if you use it for recurring bill pay because for bills they WILL force it through even if the balance is too low and then you got the OD charges. They don't tell you that up front. But it is nice because you can do direct deposit on things like your SS check, and using the debit card you always know where the money went. When I used to use cash exclusively it was always a hassle, getting money orders to pay stuff, mailing it, etc. I like being able to do that online or by phone now. And when I used cash I would often have a whirlwind of paying things when I got some money, like you just did, then a few days later I couldn't even remember what I did with it all :bonk: ...having the debit card record I can look at any time is nice.

PS most savings accounts have limits on how many withdrawals you can make a month, be sure that doesn't snarl you up if you go that route. Some of them let you move money between accounts unlimited times, but actual withdrawals they like to limit. :donno:

The checking account I have now allows me to do as many no fee withdraws I want a month, but if I use someone else's bank/ATM I have to pay a fee. As long as I use my debit card as a credit card, not using a pin number, I don't get charged and there is no monthly fee. It is a truly free checking account, at least it is the way I use it. The bank even switched it over to the 55 and over account without me asking them to. I'm not sure I can find another bank with that kind of account around here. Then there is the fact I have been with this bank for at least 20 years. [emoji106]

There's some cool sellers on ebay....I wanted to get another 2013 Freedom Girl since that was the first year for them and only found one that I wanted, because it's new from the tube, and is the last one he's got. Some others I saw had been handled and/or banged around and had scratches or discolorations...but I wasn't quite comfortable with spending the money yet until next payday (tues)...getting too far into my "disposable" money for comfort.

I sent him a message and told him I'd like to buy it but was going to have to wait until tues at least...he sent me back a reply and said no problem, he pulled the listing and said he'll just wait until he hears from me, then put it back up and I can buy it then.

That's pretty damn decent. I've bought from him before, so I guess he figures I'm not gonna stand him up.

Got that Freedom Girl I talked about above, she came today. Yesterday I got two of those Sunshine Mint eagle rounds from MCM...that other really good deal on those is over as I predicted, with silver seemingly on the rise. But MCM still sells them at a pretty small premium with free shipping so they are my source for now.

The guy who had the last '13 Freedom Girl also had something of interest to me...another weird plated copper piece...same dimensions and high quality so I'm guessing probably made by the same whoever it was that made those gold-plated ones I bought. This one is a replica $5 silver certificate, 1 oz. copper with silver plate. It's really nice. It doesn't photograph well, this is the best I could do.

I like this guy. He was the one who held that coin for me and then when I ordered this too he refunded the shipping and sent a little free gift too, a carded 1 gram silver bar with a certification doc like you see sometimes in gift shops. Not worth much, but neat anyway. [emoji106]

Huh. Looking at my pic, I see there is a company name in the bottom border on the backside. I never noticed looking at the bar, it is too small to catch my attention. But at least now I have a name. I did a little checking and I don't think they are around anymore. There's a few of these that have been sold on auction sites in the last 5 years or so, but not too damn many. Cool. [emoji106]

Yep. Just checked the gold ones, and they too have the same thing on the back. Man it's tiny. Would have never seen it if not for the pic.
