I'm NOT a good judge of class. In fact, I was voted "Most Classless Human Being Ever" at the yearly AFJROTC awards banquet two years in a row [emoji2] (seriously)...so my perception may be WAY off the mark.

In contemplating the purchase of my latest piece of silver, which will be the one that puts me over the one pound mark, I thought maybe I'd spend a little more than normal and get something...well...classy?

After looking at a lot of designs, I found myself smitten with this one. I'm not big into 1 oz rounds, I prefer the 1 oz bars, but for this subject, I can deal with a round.

You be the judge. Classy? Or just pretentious?

$34 not bad for a new limited and serial numbered strike with a bit of pedigree. I'd like to buy several...the first year 2013's are going for $70+ already...

This is a new company that looks to me to have some promise as far as making collectible silver pieces so I decided to jump in and buy her siblings too, only three they make so far. If they do well, these were so limited they will increase in value. If they fold, there will never be more and they increase in value...win-win, way I see it.



I like Asian dragons, so this is good for me, it's also a reproduction design of a Japanese coin from the late 1800's.



This has meaning in Japanese culture about enduring love and wisdom....a bird that mates for life and the sea turtle, who is ancient and has seen everything in his travels.

Been doing a little poking around learning about this company, and it seems like I might have done one of my rare blunderings into something good but relatively unknown. They seem to be the hottest thing in semi-numismatic metals right now. New companies coming on line are rare, especially with quality product. I have a few bars made in Hong Kong by a relative upstart, but they are very simple composition for the most part. And there's that lingering doubt about Chinese quality that holds the value down a bit (but is unfounded, at least where these are concerned)...but Japanese metals always seem to do well and the art bars and rounds increase in value with time, outrunning the actual content value.

So you people need to forget you even saw this. GO AWAY! Nothing to see here. All for Silas. [emoji2]

I got one that is numbered and dated, and will be one of only 150 made. They did a very few 24kt gold-clad examples of their first design produced...sorry I missed out on that. Only a couple dozen made. Maybe one shows up on the used market? Yeah right. Not gonna happen, for a few years anyway...then will be priced outta my range...

Jeffco, each to his own. I'm personally not into collectible silver as it gets overpriced too often. I buy my silver for the future and I don't mean as waiting for the price to go up and selling. but to hold it in case the economy dumps and we have to have something else to barter with. Gold and silver has always been two of the items most often traded after a SHTF type of situation or when times get tough. Good luck with your purchase.

I have a shit-ton of 1 gram silver bars for that situation. I figure they'd be more useful than trying to divide up a 1 oz bar or coin.

Not that I expect that situation to happen, but did figure it into the overall idea when I decided to collect. I just like silver. And copper. That's gotten out of hand, I need to put the brakes on. I have over 20 pounds of copper bullion in various forms (bars, coins, rounds, bullets, etc)...the pieces are cheap and fun to collect, I see how many different styles and types I can find. Some that I like a lot I have several dozen of. When you buy in large quantities (say over 10) they are priced below $1/piece.

Still not really grounded in actual value of copper, by weight they are only worth .25 cents or so. But it costs money to design and create and ship them, same as anything else. But if, as you said, the SHTF, long before you'd be bartering with yer gold and silver, copper and other metal prices will surge like they did when fuel got so high...one way or the other, it takes fuel to mine and process metals, and the prices are inextricably tied to each other. There is a lag, but not much. Ones that take more power to produce and form feel it first.

Jeff, how do you store/keep your valuable metals? Safe deposit box? Just curious.

Far as how, they are in an airtight plastic container with o-ring seals and silica packets inside...and each piece is in a case or a flip or something of its own.
